I have not posted in a long time........ Have had some personal issues, with that being said - Writers block is only natural.
ANYWHO..................
So I am on the phone with my dad yesterday, not quite sure how we got on the subject of times changing but WOW! I always thought that my grandparents were so lucky to see so many things come about in their era. As my dad and I start comparing stories of what we have seen come, go and change. I try to explain this to my kids and they look at me like I am nuts. For example: I remember when there was no such thing as a remote control for the tv. My brother and I were the remote: Hey, go change the channel to 4 - its almost time for the news. My kids have never seen a tv without a remote. They look at me like I am an alien when I tell them we never had remotes back in the 1970's. Or how about; getting up at 6:00 on Saturday mornings to catch cartoons - the only day of the week that we could watch them. My youngest son says; "Seriously Mom, they did not have cartoon network back then?" Ha!!
My dad then continued to tell me how all government standardized tests were on paper and NOW...... that would be a joke. He told me when he took his real estate brokers exam - they had just moved the test to a computer and how he became very anxious that it was on computer, he had a hard time concentrating on it. Can you imagine?
I could ramble on all day about our conversation, which was so interesting. I will post in list form for you all to ponder and realize how much has come our way in the last few years. It is really quite amazing!
Cable TV (remember the punch buttons - if you put a tooth pick into numbers one and eight you could get free HBO)
Cell Phones
Fax Machines
Internet
Email
Computers
VCR
DVR
Walkman to Ipod
Sprinkler System
Satellite TV
Microwave
Rabbit Ears on the tv - you had to move them to get a great picture
TV would shut off at 10:00 or 11:00 every night, Ugh! I hated that.
WOW! I am sure I could add so many more, I bet my kids are wondering when their rooms can be clean digitally. Ha, Dream On! I tell them.
